How to Win at Roulette in 5 Steps
Does winning at roulette seem challenging? Don’t worry; things are not as difficult as you think. You don’t have to be experienced to become better. You become better by experimenting!
Players just need 5 steps to raise their chances of winning at roulette. Keep in mind, I do not guarantee a 100% win. No one on the planet Earth can help you achieve that. My tips are direct.
You will learn to do “this, this, and this.” So, are you ready? 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Let’s get started!
Step 1 — Learn the Game Inside Out
Casino games are like different school subjects. Roulette requires you to get familiar with the basics before even depositing money. Here are the things each beginner should focus on to win at roulette.
Understand All Bet Types
There are two bet types of roulette — inside and outside. Understanding how they function isn’t difficult at all.
Players are usually more focused on inside bets as they can bring larger profits and higher levels of excitement. Logically, the risks are simultaneously the same.
Here are options you can wager on:
- Guessing a number: Do you want to predict in which pocket the ball will land? There are 37 (or 38) numbers in front of you. Guessing the outcome will multiply your bet 36 times.
- Split bet: You can bet on numbers that are next to each other on the board (17/1).
- Street bet: Wagering on three numbers in a row (11/1).
- Corner bet: Betting on four numbers that are next to each other. For instance, 2, 3, 5, and 6 (8/1).
- Line bet: Players can bet on two rows covering six numbers that way (6/1).
What about outside bets? They are less risky, which is why they bring smaller profits. Here are the options in front of you:
- Columns: Bet on one of three columns, each one containing 12 numbers (2/1)
- Dozens: There are three dozens in roulette, each one covering 12 numbers. They look like this – from 1 to 12, from 13 to 24, and from 25 to 36 (2/1)
- Odd/Even: There are 18 odd and even numbers on the wheel (1/1)
- Red/Black: Just like in the previous case, there are 18 red and black numbers (1/1)
- High/Low: Low numbers are from 1 to 16, and high numbers are from 19 to 36 (1/1)
Familiarize Yourself with Roulette Variations
If I could get familiar with all shark species, then you can easily learn about different roulette variants. The three most popular ones in the world are:
- American roulette
- European roulette
- French roulette
I prefer playing the European version, thanks to its lower house edge. The reason for that is simple; European roulette has only a single zero, while American has 0 and 00.
But there exist lots of fun sub-variants of roulette:
- Roulette with 2 balls
- Multi-wheel roulette
- Mini-roulette
- Instant roulette
- No zero roulette
Step 2 — Manage Your Bankroll Effectively
After getting familiar with the basics, it is the right moment to organize your budget. The purpose of this step is to ensure responsible gambling. Never spend more than you can afford.
Set a Budget
How much money can you spend playing roulette per month? Get a pencil and paper on the 1st day of the month. Write down your entire income and all the costs you will have that month. Logically, divide one part for unexpected costs that, in my case, appear every month.
You don’t necessarily have to dedicate an entire sum to gambling. There are other sources of fun you need to spend money on. The question is — what are your priorities? It is something I will let you define.
Determine Bet Sizes
Now, when you have the amount of cash available, you need to determine how much you will spend per round. Start by deciding on how much money for each session. Based on that calculation, you can define the value of each wager.
Remember one thing — you will have to adjust to different situations in real time. That especially counts if you start a winning strike. Don’t get too excited about it; your bet has to be the same.

Step 3 — Choose the Best Strategies for You
Here comes the real deal. Players need to find the best tactic that suits their gambling preferences. Refer to the ones I regularly use!
Select a Betting System
Betting systems are appropriate for outside bets. Here are the most common ones:
- Martingale System: This strategy suggests that a player should double his bet after experiencing a loss. Yet, when he guesses the number, then the bet value gets back to the initial one.
- Paroli System: This tactic functions completely opposite to the previous one. Players should raise their bet when they win and get back to the initial wager when they lose. You play with “casino money.”
Stick to Your Strategy
Don’t change your tactic in the middle of the session. I know you will try that if things are not going well. However, switching from one strategy to another can only make you feel lost. Plus, there is no guarantee anything will change. If you have a massive desire to change it, do that the next day.
Step 4 — Play European or French Roulette
I need to get back to roulette variants. Logically, you primarily need to understand the differences between them. However, when it comes to choosing one, I recommend the European and French versions.
Lower House Edge
As I said, these two versions only have a single zero. Instead of having 38 betting options (American version), you will have 37. That may not seem like a big difference at the beginning, right? Well, the house edge of these two versions is around 2.5%, lower compared to the American variant, which has 5.26%.
Special Rules Advantage
American roulette lacks two special features that can increase your chances of winning. They are specific rules of the French roulette:
- La Partage: If you place a bet on any of the outside options, and the ball lands in the pocket of zero, you get half of the money back.
- En Prison: Players who made an even-money bet can use the same amount of money for the next round. There is no place for changing your decisions; your funds “go to prison” and stay locked for the following spin.
Step 5 — Practice and Stay Disciplined
Ultimately, players need to work on their self-control. Believe it or not, this will be the hardest part. Roulette can easily influence your emotions and make you spend more than you can afford. Here is how to prevent that from happening.
Use Free Games to Hone Your Skills
The good news is that casinos offer demo versions of different roulette types. You will get unlimited credits to enjoy the game. Yet, act like you are playing with the real money. This way, you will learn when to say “enough is enough” and leave the table.
To be precise, you will get used to those “crazy moments” when the ball lands in one pocket and suddenly goes to another. These situations are killing me even today!
Know When to Stop
Set up the upper limit of both wins and losses. Let’s imagine that you start the session with $500. I would leave the table after reaching $2000. Yet, if I barely reached $1000, I would leave it anyway. There is a big chance RTP has gone down due to different factors.
Don’t freeze too much if your budget is limited. For instance, if you play with $100, don’t hesitate to risk everything.
And Now?
All my tips are developed after years of playing this entertaining game. I encourage you to apply them as soon as possible. Do whatever it takes to gamble responsibly and enjoy each session fully.
